Community Works’ Rising Voices is a theatre ensemble of formerly incarcerated young women ages 18 to 25. Through group exploration of personal stories, the women of Rising Voices challenged themselves to transform their personal narrative into fictionalized one-act plays. “A Way Out” consists of three short plays that offer glimpse into lives of women struggling to break away from cycles of abuse, incarceration and codependency. 2011 Public Defender’s Justice Summit

The SF Public Defender’s Office is proud to present the 2011 Justice Summit: Justice by the Book. Panels will include discussion of authors on criminal justice, the ethics of law enforcement in preventing the abuse of power, and the future of the death penalty in San Francisco and beyond. Summer Camp for Children of Incarcerated Parents

Program for Children with Parent in Prison Project Avary (Alternative Ventures for At Risk Youth) is now taking referrals for its annual summer camp for children with incarcerated parents.  To attend our FREE summer camp for one week this summer children must reside in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin or San Francisco Counties, be between ages 8 and 10 and have a parent in prison or jail.  All children must be referred to the program by a youth professional (social worker, teacher, etc.) who has knowledge of the child and his/her family situation.  To refer a child please call the Avary office 415-382-8799 or email info@projectavary.org. Referral interviews take 20-30 minutes over the phone. Spaces are limited, and fill up quickly. For more information see www.projectavary.org
