Public Safety Realignment Law Takes Effect

Posted by Jessica Flintoft • September 27th, 2011

Major changes to the law will shift some of the responsibility for incarcerating, supervising, and providing services for adults from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to each of the 58 individual counties. This shift in responsibility begins on Saturday. The City/County of San Francisco has been at the forefront of planning for this shift, and has adopted its Public Safety Realignment Implementation Plan. All City/County departments and partners have been working together to ensure that San Francisco implements realignment safely and effectively, to reduce recidivism and improve outcomes for individuals, families, and communities. If your San Francisco-based organization would like to learn more about realignment implementation, please contact me at reentry.council@sfgov.org with any specific questions or to schedule a presentation.
