<p>Dr. Shira Shavit, director of Transitions Clinic (<a href="http://transitionsclinic.org/">http://transitionsclinic.org</a>) and Chairperson of the Reentry Council’s Subcommittee on Health and Wellbeing, is one of ten recipients of the 2010 Community Health Leaders Award. Nominated by Public Defender Jeff Adachi, Dr. Shavit was honored for her efforts to help create a medical home tailored to the health needs of former prisoners and to help design a certificate program at City College to train formerly incarcerated people to become community health workers. The selection of Community Health Leaders is extremely competitive, and hundreds are nominated each year from across the country. Congratulations, Shira!
