The Office of Economic and Workforce Development is pleased to announce the availability of the Request for Proposals (RFP) for 2011-2012 economic and workforce development programs under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Technical Assistance Workshop will be held on Wednesday January 5th 1:00pm-3:00pm in the Koret Auditorium of the SF Public Library. New Peer Support Group for Formerly Incarcerated People

If you are formerly incarcerated, and are looking for some support to stay out of prison, or would like to provide support to others—Mark Thomas of Episcopal Community Services is starting a peer support group by and for formerly incarcerated people. The group will focus on pro-social attitudes, self-awareness, stress management, resiliency building, and education on issues related to reentry. Volunteers Needed for Count of People who are Homeless

Volunteers are needed to count individuals who are sleeping outside in San Francisco on the night of January 27th. The purpose of this count is to estimate the scope of homelessness in San Francisco, and to help get federal resources to build housing and provide services to homeless people.  If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out a brief survey here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2011SFHomelessCountVolReg. A Hard Straight: Movie Screening and Panel Discussion

The Reentry Council and the San Francisco Public Library present A Hard Straight, a documentary film by Goro Toshima, about the real experiences of three people transitioning from prison to life outside. Featuring individuals on parole in San Francisco, the film highlights some of the struggles and triumphs of people returning to their communities. A panel discussion will follow. Interfaith Emergency Winter Shelter Program is Open

The San Francisco Interfaith Council has announced the rotating shelter site locations open now through Saturday February 26th. These emergency winter shelter beds are NOT reserved through CHANGES, SF’s centralized shelter reservation system for individual adults. To find out more about how people in need  of shelter may access these beds, please see the Flier which may be posted and distributed widely.

Webinar on Victims and Reentry

The National Reentry Resource Center is sponsoring a free webinar that will cover promising and replicable practices and program models for involving crime victims and victims services in offender reentry planning processes.  This webinar will help participants identify ways to assess and address victims’ needs, invite and include victim services in reentry planning conversations, and develop victim-offender programming that focuses on offender accountability. The webinar will be facilitated by Leah Kane of CSG and will feature a presentation by Trudy M. Gregorie of Justice Solutions.
